A major milestone for Syn whistles passed last week when the last whistle in the first production run was posted out. The second run has begun, and the first whistle is ready and waiting in its posting tube, ( with two plastic end-caps), to go out in the next mail. So here is a good opportunity to reflect on Syn whistles so far.
Firstly, my thanks to all of you who have commented on the whistles that have gone out so far, all of your comments, positive, negative or encouraging have been taken on board and will hopefully go towards better syn whistles in the long term. I suppose the biggest lesson I have learnt is that attention to detail must be my main concern. I am pleased to say that for the second run of whistles, the finger holes will be round, the tuning slides will not wobble, the pin in the head will be hammered home and there will be no black stuff left in the holes after polishing! Well, to the best of my ability anyway, thats the resolution.
I might say too that the whistle waiting to go has a C and an Eb body nestled into the posting tube as well as the standard D. I do listen, and syn whistles are evolving as well as refining.
The basic voicing of syn whistles will remain basically the same. It will be a little quieter and softer than the very first models, which did not suit a number of players who I might call (for want of a term) soft blowers. I think a small adjustment there may suit a wider audience. Of course there will still be players for whom a syn whistle is not a perfect match, and my policy there remains as a 
replacement or refund.
And who is Mr Syn? Well, it isn’t really much of a secret, postal regulations see to that, but I have posted this as my alter ego, Mr Bodhrans, and there is probably sufficient information in that profile to keep you happy.

Sister-in-law Synful Sue has joined the fray! 
I have no idea what I’m doing (my daughter Sara is assisting to get me started - how do I make her be quiet?!?). Anyway, even as a non-whistler, reading the syn whistle comments (and some other postings too) has been a blast. What an interesting group of people! Have enjoyed receiving the orders and passing them on - am waiting for the arrival of my own whistle 
- but perhaps it’s not a good one for a beginner such as me, if I listen to some of the reviews. I’ll have to rely on Mr Syn/Bodhran regarding that.

If you’ll examine carefully the other thread, you’ll find that I revealed this at one point.
I think you’ll find evidence that I guessed right earlier on that thread without revealing my answer. But since I was looking at a prototype Bartlett high D on my desk and a Syn on the screen and could see no difference, I don’t think I really deserve any prizes that might be on offer for being the one to solve the mystery. I think that honour goes to you Walden.

Thanks for the email enquiries about the new body tubes. I’ll answer those personally, but just for general information, the cost of syn whistles will remain at the same low US$30 for the time being. The new bodies will be US$10 each, postage also remains at US$5. But watch out, if the AU$ gets any stronger then prices will rise.
Welcome to the board Synful Sue! She has been watching for a while, and everyone has been so well behaved! I wonder if she is the only board member who doesn’t actually own a whistle? Perhaps this is just a ploy to shame me into finally sending one to her? Don’t worry Sue, you are on the top of my list.
As soon as I can find a source of NaHSO4 locally, I will try etching the aluminium body on syn whistles to afix a logo. Find the chemical, then find the time.
