I just bought a feadog high D and am trying to get the mouthpiece off as it was very sharp. I’ve tried hot water and putting it in the freezer but no luck. Any ideas?
How about freezer first then immerse the head into hot (boiling ?) water ?
Also, stuff something into the ventway to keep the hot water from touching the metal when dunking.
Do you have (or know anyone who has) a C or Bb whistle?
The easiest way to get a stuck head off is usually to slide the foot of the D inside the foot of the larger whistle, then give it a sharp shove. The stuck head will hit the end of the large whistle tube hard, and the shock often cracks the glue.
You might have to do it a few times, but it’s usually the most effective and least risky way of doing it. Hot water risks deforming the plastic head if you get the temperature slightly wrong.
[Edited to add: if you use boiling water you’ll definitely destroy the head!]
Finally got it off basically used this method but with the body of an alto recorder as it was just small enough to hit the mouthpiece.
