K, every time I take the mouthpiece off of my whistle (like to de-slobber it and stuff) then replace it, the metal scratches the inside of the mouthpiece and little flakes of plastic start coming off. Is this normal? If not, is there anything I can do to stop it? I really don’t want my poor whistle to get messed up
what kind of whistle? Most don’t have heads which are meant to be removed easily.
It’s an An Seisiun D Whistle. Eventually I’ll go out and get one of those main brands. Anyways, I’ve read some places (I think around here maybe… could be somewhere else) that you are supposed to be able to remove it so you can tune the whistle. Is that wrong? (heh, guess who’s only been playing a week)

Jilly, though the head can be removed, as you have done, the easiest way to get rid of the excess moisture is to give it a good hard shake, preferrably aimed at the bodhran across the way. You could also wrap a paper napkin over the far end before you shake it.
Those shavings of plastic do have a habit of getting in the way of some notes!
