Mouth blown Uilleann Pipe practice chanter: Anyone every try

I spotted this odd looking monstrosity and listened to the file out of curiousity. Dang, the thing doesn’t sound half bad! Anyone ever buy one? What’s it like.

Ad a washingglove for bag and the old bellows from the fireplace and then you have your own practice set

A friend of mine has one. I heard it in person. Pretty scary. It was loud, out of tune (he said he had to work on the reed to get it in tune) and it looked like he was really working his face and breathing muscles to get enough air through it. I think there’s a good reason for having a bellows on these things. The tone was not what you’d call “sweet.”

A guy posted his review on the uilleann pipes list over a year ago. It sounded like he needed to do some major tweaking to make it playable. Sounded more complicated than whistle tweaking. He was basically satisfied he got his money’s worth (about $100) after he worked it over.

I must be getting really messed up with this whole piping thing, I actually enjoyed the clip! Granted it was out of tune, but wow, if you could get it in tune and put a little reverb behind it…

The thought gives me shivers!
