Most often played tunes?

What are your 3 most often played tunes? Three Blind Mice doesn’t count.
Mine seem to be,
1, The Leaving of liverpool
2, Mingaly Boat Song
3, (This week anyway) St Anne’s Reel.

I don’t know how to answer that question. Every week or so I select two or three tunes to work on intensively. At present they are

The Golden Keyboard
The Galway Rambler
King of the Clans

Star of the County Down

Garrett Barry’s

The Maid Who Sold Her Barley

Mimi and the New Generation Polkas & The Antigonish Polkas (thus making a six polka set)I’m counting that as one tune!

Inion Ni Scanlon (or however you spell it)
“O’Scanlon’s Daughter”

Einach Dhuin (or however you spell that, again I’ve seen half a dozen variations.)

(also Roisin Dubh, and half a dozen other slow airs I can’t name, couldn’t spell if I could, and certainly can’t pronounce)

The Rolling Wave

Shores of Lough Gowna

Autumn Sky (aka Tom’s Air)

Currently working on Saddle the Pony and on Hector the Hero.

Jr. Crehan Fav’t/The Humours of Carrigaholt/Major Harrison’s Fedora–played as a set on the Bb whistle (bouzouki backup)

Fig for a kiss
Ode to joy
Inisheer
(Hey, I’m a beginner)

The Lark In The Clear Air
St James’ Infirmary Blues
Only You

1) Elizabeth Kelly's Delight (by faaaaar my most frequently played tune).

2) The Gravel Walks

3)Rolling in the Barrel/The Templehouse (I've played them as a set for so long, I don't think I can separate them any more)!

~Firefly

  1. Hymn of the day.
  2. Rock and Roll Oldie of the day.
  3. O’Carolan tune of the day.

I’m working hard on Mason’s Apron - still very tough for me. Easier tunes on my current list are Frost is All Over and Cup of Tea.

Well, it changes, depending on which ones I can remember.

Currently:

  1. The Cat Rambles to the Child’s Saucepan
  2. Banks of the Suir
  3. Wild Mountain Thyme (Hey, it’s faire season!)

Probably if I have to do a quick demo on the whistle, one of these tunes always seems to bubble to the top:

  1. Sean Reid’s (reel)
  2. Willie Coleman’s Jig
  3. The Claire Jig
  4. Humours of Lisheen
  5. Killarney Boys of Pleasure

Cheers,

Michael

Wow! No duplication! You people have some great pieces. Bala…I love “Ode To Joy.” It’s really Beethoven’s 9th. So for a beginner you are in good company.

Banish Misfortune/Carmody’s/Blarney Pilgrim.
–My warmup set.

N, gotta go

Fire in the Hearth

Sam’s Girls

Merry Harriers

kid on the mountain and the butterfly

I too play lot’s of different tunes that I work on for periods of time; but if you mean the three that I’d present as the best I can do and enjoy most (that seems to be the same thing actually):

The Rolling Wave

The Halting March

The Ashplant

The South Wind (had to slip in a fourth)

Philo

Tunes that get the most play?

Star of County Down - yearning for beauty a little out of reach.

The Black Cat (by Lothlorien) - refreshing with the meander through a gentle glade.

Culloden’s Harvest - mourning lost dreams and hopes.

Road to Lisdoonvarna - enjoying the trip as much as the destination.

I also play other tunes, to learn, to explore, to share; but, these four seem to reoccur as tunes and themes in my life.

The Broken Pledge

Sleepy Maggie – trying to get the octave drops right without losing speed

Blackberry Blossom/Absent-Minded Woman – I keep playing one when I mean to do the other, so it’s a good thing I like both
