Molly Ivins

Molly Ivinspassed away yesterday at age 62.

I thought she was just terrific. I read her regularly. Hate to see her go.

Here’s a tribute to her by her long time editor Anthony Zurcher.

I just recently read that she was quite sick and I felt so sorry to hear it. I only know of her because of one book I read sort of by accident actually. She really had a wit on her and she made a subject I thought would be horrible really very entertaining. I learned a lot from that book and it was so painless. What sad news to hear.

I was very saddened to hear about Molly’s passing. She brought humor, humanity, and common sense into her political commentary, and that’s not always easy (especially in Texas politics). My wife cried at the news; Molly Ivins was one of her heroes. Her voice will be missed.

I am sorry for her passing but I won’t miss her polemic approach to everything. Not many shades of gray in her portrayal of the world. Like fruitcake, people loved or hated her. But the battle with breast cancer is the heartbreaker. I take off my hat to anyone who has fought that fight.

I remember Molly talking about George Bush, before he became president. Of Course, she knew him well, from Texas politics. She’s the first I ever heard to call him Dubbya. She also said he’d go a long way in politics because he was “affable.” She had Texas charm, in that Ann Richards “story tellin’” way. Miss ya, kid…

Terrible news. I feel quite guilty now because I’ve been thinking lately that she should get off her lazy ass and keep up with her editorials. I had no idea she was ill.
