Someone just posted this video of Modesty Forbids, a band which included Glenn Schultz on accordion and his daughter Bree on Flutes and whistles. Enjoy
Thank you Paul Busman for posting the video here on the Chiff. Great 1:06:45
Some points of interest particularly enjoyable for me:
15:50 waltz, 19:50 waltz with daughter, 22:50 Intro the band, 25:00 Carolan’s Concerto, 49:00 Ashokan Farewell, 52:00 Glen Schultz sings Hard Times
Also the whistle & flute playing is just wonderful! Hope there are more YouTube postings.
And, now to seek out them Thin Weasel and Water Weasel whistles, anyone willing?
I remember Glenn bringing his whistles to the Gaelic League Hall in Ferndale, Michigan on Thursday nights in the 1990’s. Comhaltas conducted workshops and lessons there, and Al Purcell (R.I.P.) was holding court with the uilleann pipers. At the time, I didn’t even know about Modesty Forbids or Glenn’s accordion playing. He was just the guy that showed up with these beautiful handcrafted wooden whistles. He sold them for $300.00 at the time, including the wooden case. So prices of wooden whistles have remained pretty steady over the past 20 years. The five hour round-trip drive every Thursday night was not something I could keep up, but free pipe lessons from the likes of Al Purcell were there for the asking.
