Hey Jane,

Thanks for sharing. It takes me back. What fun it was. I can’t wait until next year. Sooner or later I’m going to do the school thing the week prior to the weekend of the festival.

Jane, I clipped your pics and reduced the size to better fit the screen. I hope you like the results.

So who’s who in the pics?

Jim, “Live the Question” is the gentleman in the center with the whistles. Otter is the lady in the purple shirt, my daughter Emily, is in the white shirt with the “I” on the left side. Rebel is the lady seated on the right hand side. The lady on Jim’s left, I do not recall her name. I think that Jim Burke may be the man toward the rear on the left in the brown shirt.

The group in the green shirts playing whistles were some of the festival volunteers.

THANK YOU Tony, for fixing the size. I don’t know how to undo the damage to the formatting in the original post.

Gentleman, GENTLEMAN!!! Who are you calling a gentleman? I represent that! After all I have a reputation to maintain.

Thanks Jane and Tony too.

jim

Actually, I’m the one on Jim’s right (with the bucket hat), and that’s my aunt Peggy who’s seated. She mostly plays hammered dulcimer but plays around a little on the whistle.

Beth

Rebel, my mistake! Confusion is my middle name and I had tried to memorize as people signed that list, but then I didn’t have the list either. Your Aunt is the retired teacher/hammered dulcimer person I talked to most!

Next year I’m sure we’ll run into many of you. Like Jim, we are also planning on doing the classes. Hoping to spot Otter at the Chicago doings weekend after next. I am in a dilemma as to where to be though. A few of the performers that I really want to see happen to be playing at the same time on different stages.

It looks like there’s a whistler in the background wearing a cap with a Danish flag on it. Strange…

Also, I believe the whistle in Jim’s hand is the red Overton I sold him! Not that he needed another whistle, appearently.

Jens

Yep Jens, that’s the Red Anodized Overton you sold me. A nice whistle. There were so many people drifting in and out and trying our whistles, I don’t remember someone with a cap with a Danish flag but it’s entirely possibly. There were people from everywhere, or at least it seemed like from everywhere, at the festival. I’m also told that there’s a person or two of Danish heritage living in Wisconsin.

Nope, I certainly don’t need more whistles and it’s mostly a harmless endeavor  but I’m still in the process of weeding through what I will keep and what I will pass on to others. I hope to get through this process before I retire and while I still have a well paying job. If not I guess I will have to work through this issue in my next incarnation.

I probably get in at least two hours of practice a day although sometimes it’s in bits and pieces. I work with the metronome some but don’t considered my practice as disciplined as it needs to be if I’m going to progress the way I want. I make the most progress when I’m playing with others.

There were a lot of nice whistles there. I enjoyed Otter’s Copeland high D. BTW, that’s the Chiff and Fipple cap, given to me by Otter, that I’m wearing in the picture. Cool!

Hey Jane,
Thank you for sharing. Too bad you are not in the pictures! May be I can get a shot of you at the Chicago fest with other C&Fers showing up. I know I’ll be there for sure and I will definitely look for you. Let’s figure out a meeting place.

Jim, are you getting tired of playing that Rayburn whistle of yours? if so, I would gladly take it off your hands…just kidding…
By the way, the group “Suicra” we talked about, I got to see them the next day. That woman plays the flute magnificently.
Let us know if you are coming down to Chicago.

Rebl-n, are you going to Chgo as well?
If a group of us are meeting, let’s plan on playing a bunch of tunes together. That would be very cool.

Otter

Lucky ducks, you had nice weather! Last time I went to a event in Milwaukee, a Pow-wow, it wsa so rainy, people were dancing in their Nikes, rather than their moccasins!

Is that a whistle snuggly or is he just holding up a roll-up case for shot?. If the former, hats off to a true WHOA warrior!!!

And I thot Otter was a guy before today… How embarassing! Sorry, OTTER!

Damn! I have been found out.
Yep, Weekenders, I am Woman, hear me roar!

Sibyle (pronounced Seebeele)
aka Otter

She/Otter
“She oughta know Otters don’t roar”
“This Otter does!”

Otter,

No I won’t be at Chicago because 1)I’ve got another commitment and 2) As much as I love the city, I HATE the traffic and will do just about anything to avoid driving in it.

But, I just found out that I may be in Chicago over St. Patrick’s Day next year for the National Immunization Conference. The first day of the conference is St Pat’s, and unless my boss decides to come along too I may have to miss some of the conference activities on that day, or evening anyway, and find alternate activities. Gaelic Storm will be at the House of Blues and there will be lots of other stuff to choose from as well. I hope I get to go!

Beth

Nope that’s a whistle roll pouch. I keep my whistle snuggly in my backpack 'cause everyone tries to steal it.

Otter, I’m still not tired of playing the Reyburn yet. I’m sure Ronaldo will make you one of your own if you ask sweetly. A few months from now I might be willing to lend it to you for a bit but then you’d for sure want one. If I could wax eloquent I’d tell you about the beautiful lyrical haunting musical sounds that come out of that low D. And then I’d go on to tell you about how smooth the transition is from one octave to the next and how it can be played softly or more loudly and it sounds beautiful both ways. And I’d tell you about how people stop and listen when I play Sally Gardens and how soothing it is to my spirit as well as to theirs. But since I haven’t learned to wax eloquent yet, I’m not going to tell you all that stuff.

Lee, brother, I know I’m the black sheep of the family and most of the rest of the family won’t acknowledge me and you only got here a few seconds before me, but it really really hurts to have you deny me to the world. What would our dear old mother say…never mind, she always loved you best anyway. When we meet in that Great Irish Bar in the Sky where we hang out between incarnations I’m going to buy you a beer or an Irish Coffee just to show there’s no hard feelings…but I get to be first born next time.

y’all take care now
