Has anyone experienced playing the Michael Burke Low D Aluminum whistle. I have found reviews of the composite and brass models but not the aluminum.
I am looking for something that is comparable in tone and playability to my O’Riordan (I have another low D O’Riordan on order, but it will be a very long time before I have it).
The Burke composite has been compared to the O’Riordan. I’m wondering about the aluminum.
Actually, Mike Burke doesn’t make a brass low-D. They’re all aluminum and composite. His low AlPros take quite a bit of air (much more than an Overton, a little less than a Copeland), but they play well and have very strong lower registers. They’re pure sounding as low whistles go, but still have plenty of the low-whistle sound.
It’s the easiest low D I’ve ever played. I love the way on Overton sounds, but the Burke is just so much easier on the fingers, it’s the first one I reach for. And it still sounds great.
