Memorial Response

I play the Highland Pipes each year at a service on Memorial Day.

I am honored to be able to do this. Let’s all remember the sacrifices

made by all of the men and women who served, and are serving, in the

armed forces of our country.

Amen to that!

I was thinking of this yesterday when we were playing several tunes that have stood the test of time such as “Soldier’s Joy”, “The Girl I left Behind Me”, “8th of January”, “When Johnny Comes Marching Home”, to name just a few … many tunes that have seen much of war.

May our veterans, whether fallen, retired, or still serving, find that their sacrifices are not made in vain and that their children and grandchildren, and on down the line see less call to arms.

May whistles sound in great chorus today especially in tribute to those that stand when they must and with courage and conviction, defend a line that must not be crossed.

May they all find peace.

That line was crossed long ago when the USA and the UK decided to illegally invade a sovereign nation for absolutely no reason other than the fact that they didn’t like its leader.

Our servicemen are not in Iraq to defend anything. They are there as the invaders and agressors. Let us not forget that fact.

We disagree about the facts. You’re entitled to your opinion,
of course, but maybe there’s a time to put these criticisms
aside for a day.

Moving on: I remember about 60 years ago, around Christmas,
19,000 Americans died in two weeks defending Bastogne, a village in
Belgium. It is easy to forget these dead, and what their
sacrifice has meant to the world.

I guess Scottish tunes, like ‘Bachelor’s Farewell,’ fit
this day.

I am in full agreement, but since this is the whistle forum (hint) I was doing my best to keep such ‘controversial’ stuff out of it… and rather than hold our service personnel as responsible for the debaucal, I think the rath/blame lies with the authorities who sent them there… the vast majority of whom, in this current administration, are not veterans. A different kind of whistle is due them.

Tis a good tune to be sure … but one other comes to mind … tis only 24 notes long .. and as haunting as any ever played!

I also favor the sentiment that was given during this battle .. “Nuts!” ..
