Memorial for Tim Fitzgerald

The Irish community of the Twin Cities and the Midwest is mourning the loss of Timothy “Fitz” Fitzgerald who passed away unexpectedly
on Wednesday. He was literally a driving force in our community in his many roles as organizer, highland piper, singer and man of many talents. He helped many of us musicians a great deal over the years and he will be sorely missed.

The good folks of the Kansas City Irish Fest posted this on their blog…

A celebration of Fitzy’s life is to held at Kieran’s Pub in Downtown Minneapolis, Sunday, March 14th after 4:30pm. I’ll post more details as we have them.

So passes a man who embodied the term “a force of nature”. His untiring dedication and drive in furthering concert performances not only from within the Twin Cities community, but particularly in bringing in a seemingly inexhaustible supply of visiting artists as if it were nothing, was remarkable and nothing short of selfless. I think no one could have ever uttered his name even in the most passing fashion when he was alive without remembering this, he loomed for us so even when he was under the radar.

If his shoes are ever to be filled, may Providence grant they’ll be filled nearly as well, but it’s hard to imagine that it could be done.
