Meg on Clips N Snips: Be Gentle...Its My First Time

For those interested in hearing what a Clarke Meg sounds like played by a newbie (yeah baby)…Tony has posted my first MP3 on the Clips N Snips site. Its Silver Spear in the Reels section.

Sorry that the first Meg recording on Clips is by a newbie like me, but here is the good thing…this was recorded using the the less than perfect whistle I mentioned in the Meg review thread, so its likely you’d have an even better sound because its sure that you will have better luck in the whistle roulette draw.

Tony has made an erroneously generous mistake by posting me in the regular section with all of the experienced people…I’d intended to be posted in the beginners section cause I’ve only been on the whistle for about 4 months now, so please keep this in mind if you take a listen…

I just listened at it. It sounds good. I’ve got to get a Meg. No, four Megs. Both colors and both keys!

Kevin,
My congrats. It sounds very good to me. I have been doing the whistle thing for about the same length of time as you. I’ll have to see if I can get a tune together to post as well. I just started lessons with a good teacher and had to back step just a bit to get me to stop tongueing.

I got D and C Megs recently. I like the D, just like my Sweetone but I find the C difficult to play and the ridge on the C’s back is annoying.

Mike

Thanks, and thanks to those who have sent me kind suggestions about my breathing on this clip…oxygen deprivation is one of my major practice hurdles, and Im working on it! Not always easy to find the right breathing spots while keeping the tune moving. More Woodshed…

P.S. Yes Loren, this clip is awfully hornpipey for a reel, but hey, you aint got a thing if you aint got dat swing…

P.P.S. Mike: Thanks, and good for you for finding a teacher! I have not been successful in my search for a teacher in my area. “Bitter, party of one…” Sorry, gotta go, thats my table…
