Anyone out there got a McGee flute made out of gidgee?

I’m thinking about getting a Grey Larsen model flute, since it’s so radically different from what I usually play, and I have this new-found admiration of American-made flutes (it’s based on a Firth/Pond instrument).

Anyway, I’m trying to pick timber. I have a red lancewood flute by Grinter, so I thought I’d try something different, like, say gidgee or Cooktown ironwood. I’ve seen Cooktown ironwood, which is also nice. But gidgee sounds kinda neat too!

Sounds pretty cool. I too would love to try that flute model of Terry’s.

I bought a new gidgee flute from Terry in about 1998. Owned it for 4 years and then ordered a new McGee flute.

I was very happy with the flute I had, it was good for me at the time because it was fairly small holed and easy to play for a beginner.

I ordered a new flute from Terry which has just recently been delivered - a Rudall & Rose model in Red Lancewood.

I sold my gidgee flute on eBay to a guy in the US.

It was a good flute, the material was lovely to look at and quite stable. My reason for trading up had nothing to do with the gidgee.

The jury is still out on the timber type. Though, I will advise if y’all are interested.

As for keys, nope. Just a plain ol’ keyless flute. I really like keyless instruments.
