The recent issue of the Pipers’ Review put me onto a new piping CD released by Martin McCormack. He is selling it off his own web site: http://www.mccormackmusic.com/. It is also available through OssianUSA and other places on the web.
This is not the change-the-UP-world-forever CD, but it is nice clean playing, and a pleasant listen, for those who like listening. I’m happy to have it.

Sounds like a worthwile CD to have. DJM…what would be a ‘change-the-UP-world-forever CD’ in your opinion? I’d be interested to know what people look for when they want a piping CD.

Ah, now you’re asking. 
To me, a change-the-world CD would present tunes played in a way that I’d never heard before that struck me as undeniably remarkable, tunes I’d never heard before but that I instantly fall in love with and have to learn, or techniques/methods that just knock me off my feet.
Different people seem to listen for different things, some to the music as just straight music, others strictly for technique, or cleanness, or speed, etc. so its impossible to say what any one person will think of a particular album. In this case, I didn’t want to build up anyone’s hope that this was the be-all-and-end-all of piping CDs, but its a pleasant listen, and there’s some tunes I want to get off it.
Your mileage may vary.

aye, marty’s CDs lovely. and he’s a very sound lad - up corcaghan and the seans. he’s got some really good old tunes on there and his low whistle playing on a couple of the tracks is excellent.
my sister guest on the harp on it along with Laura Beagon, a fiddle player from monaghan. sean mc elwaine, from teada fame backs on bazooki on the album and Amelia Murphy sings a song or two.
sorry i’m biased i know as we all grew up together, etc. but it’s a great listen and i wish marty all the best with it.

yeah, with any luck. i’d say in a couple of weeks i’ll get him. a big gang land down in galway every year the weekend before christmas for a good session. failing that, i’ll corner him at christmas!!
