The lesson starts at about 14:00 into the performance. You won’t be disappointed.

Best wishes,
Jerry

Thank you Jerry. I’d never heard her before, she’s great!

Nor I.

I heard the show on the radio the other night and thought it worth sharing.

Best wishes,
Jerry

… what a hoot!
Thanks Jerry

Her playing is as good as I’ve ever heard from the GHP.

I had the great good fortune to see Anna Russell in performance quite a few years ago. She did this bit in performance and it was amazingly funny. Instead of a tartan, her pipes’ bag was covered in black with large white polka dots.
Anna started out as a serious opera singer but found out that she connected with the audience much more as a comedienne. She performed for many years, creating some really classic routines. One is “How to Write a Gilbert and Sullivan Opera” based on the premise that all of those are really basically the same. Another classic is her performance of the entire Wagner Ring Cycle of operas (which normally would take upwards of 20 hr, I believe) in about 21 minutes. Astounding…

inspired by this thread, I checked amazon.com and just found a copy of “The Anna Russell Album” for about $7.00. Still more available.

Anna Russell is one of my heroes. Thanks for that link, Jerry; what a treat.

I got to tell you guys but most bags nowadays are not tartans they are usually just solid colors.

LOL… thanks for that!! I would have gotten through “Music Appreciation” class so much better if she’d been the prof.
