after restoring life to a couple of old reeds im feeling very brave and think i can make my own reeds now. so what is the best way to go about this. whos method should i try, where to get the tools…ect..ect..
Rebel,
I think Dave Hegartys book is probably the best as it has some good all round info., it’s available fom Na Piobairi Uilleann, Dublin. As for recipes, depends on who made your chanter and what you want from it…
Cheers
Alan
If you have an oportunity to attend a reed making workshop that would also be very good. I attended one run by Seth Gallager this past weekend. Seth says that getting one in 4 reeds to work is about average. If you crack a slip while sanding scraping grazy glue will work to repair it.
If you cannot attend a seminar try and get someone who had made a sucessfull reed to walk your thru the fine tuning that is the critical part.
