I’ve made many successful, and lovely sounding whistles using http://www.ggwhistles.com. great sounding whistles.
The lowest whistle i’ve made is a low G, I used electrical pvc pipe with a 16mm ID.
Is it possible to make a low F of the same 16mm pipe? Or do i need to have a larger bore as Guido suggests on his site?
It’s just I’ve got plenty of 16mm ID pipe, and have turned a length of pvc to this ID, to use for my fipples
Hi Chris
This is what the Low F I made for Bothrops sounds like made of 16mm pipe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnmuVLMSzd0&feature=channel_page
He says its a bit on the quiet side but not too quiet, quite sweet in the second 8ve, great for home practice.
Have a go at both 16 & 22mm, if you need the dimensions for the 16mm pipe I think I’ve
still got them as they’ve gone from Guidos site.
I haven’t got round to trying the larger pipe yet but will do soon.
Thanks Nick, It would be great to see the dimensions. Does that mean a 16mm bore would be quieter than a 22mm? Is that the only difference? I think guido only gives dimensions for the 22mm.
I’ve made the low F from Guido’s measurements. 22mm. Polypropylene pipe, not PVC. Sounds good. People have admired the tone. One day I’ll get into this sound-clip business…
I see you’ve written 500 blank, does that mean 500 is roughly the whole length of the whistle? Or is that from the ramps blade to the bell? I found that i had to enlarge the window slightly on my low G too.
Thank you for finding the time on the mobile nett. Are you still on the canal boat??
Cheers Chris
Hi
I thought you might mention the ‘500 blank’
Its just the starting point for the rough piece of pipe.
I written it on all my copies for Guido’s whistles.
