Patsy Brown’s involvement is suggestive as well, since Patsy certainly was known for doing some unusual experiments.
Which makers were renowned for experimenting and who produced the most unusual sets.
Jim Daily makes some non-conventional looking sets. I’ve not heard them live, but I know a few members of this forum have a high opinion of his work.
Brian Howard has been doing some nice innovations, such as the tuning iris on the bottom of a chanter and a popping valve with one built in, I have one on my set and love it. The keywork on his chanters is unique, it’s all pillar mounted and operated by your right thumb.
His new reg design is pretty neat too, very compact like the Taylor style and with nice tuning. He has also done much work with accoustics and bores, which cannot bee seen, but heard.
