Madam George at Forty....

..or thereabouts.

Van Morrisson has recorded a live version of Astral Weeks and it is brilliant.
Recorded live over a few nights in the Hollywood Bowl with a band that know and respect..not to mention the love the love the love..that they show for the original version.

From the opening riff - that wonderful base line - to the rising arpeggio after “When you fall into a trance”,it just oozes admiration for one of the great albums of the modern age.
The tracks are not in the same order as the original but that just adds to the wonder of it all.

The photo on the front sleeve sez it all..

Van the Man at the very top of his game, a game only he can play..smiling.

I could post a link but you would be better just finding it yerself…

I will always return to the original but this live version is both a tribute and a new exploration of something that belongs in every collection.

I know people, good kind decent folk, who never got the vibe of the original album but this might just bring them there..bring them to something wonderful.

I noticed this album the other day. I’d like to get it on DVD if they bring it out in that format. Although I’d love to hear it, I can’t imagine going past the original for those Astral Weeks moments. Now that was one of the truly great albums of its (or any) day.

 I’m not sure if I want the DVD or not.

The visual thing would distract me from the whole enyoyment of the audio…and it’s one magnifecent audio.

It does not go past the original..what ever could?

Not a tribute to the original, more of a respectful acknowledgement of what is a underrated, misunderrtood album

A true and utter great..

Dig deep into your pocket and get a hold of it…

assuming you have any change leftover after buying some cold weather gear..
