Macacuba Busman.........I'm in Heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had an awesome Christmas this year! Why, you all ask?? I GOT A MACACUBA WOOD BUSMAN!!!

This is just the most amazing whistle..both in looks and craftmanship and in playability! I don’t even know how to begin to describe the Macacuba wood. It is this wonderful rich red color with these warm undertones. Paul used Brass fittings on it which really bring out the richness of the wood. The finish is like GLASS!! I swear! I told Paul that when I am not playing it I am looking at it. I may ask to be buried with it. It looks suitable to turn up as a priceless artifact in some important burial mound. I will have to work on attaining importance before I go! I am not worthy!

It sounds wonderful! Very rich, clear tone. That wonderful “woody” richness to it. I specifically asked Paul to make sure that 2nd octave B was nice and easy and sweet. And he hit it right on the money. The

transition all the way up to that elusive note is effortless and the B itself rings sweet and true. No desire to flinch or run screaming!

I am in love.

I also had the pleasure of meeting Paul and Charlene. They were passing right by the Niagara Falls, Buffalo area on their way to Michigan for the holidays. Ron and I met them at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo the day before Christmas Eve to meet, have a quick bite, and of course get my whistle so I would have it for the holiday as it was a gift from Ron. What a great time we had! Paul is an awesome guy! Charlene is awesome! Their pal Cliff was awesome! It was AWESOME! We found we shared alot of common interests so the conversation just flowed in all the right directions! Hated to see the evening end!

My ancient computer is on its last legs so I can’t post a photo. I am going to get my daughter in law to put one up for me as soon as I can so you all can see the beauty of this whistle. Paul told me he had only one piece of this wood left. A fella sent him the wood cuz he wanted a whistle to match the spoons that he had. Paul had enough wood left over to make my whistle.

EVERYONE NEEDS A BUSMAN!!!

I love my Busman, too. It’s a Bocote with brass fittings

So…any news on Official Busman FanClub yet?

My Busman in blackwood and pink ivory is still my favourite high D.

Congrats, Andrea!

Sign me up for the Busman fan club–I gave myself a birds-eye maple (salvage wood from the bottom of the Great Lakes) for my birthday. I love it!

Sounds like another lovely whistle by Paul. I’m looking forward to seeing the photo.

Cheers,
John (a happy Busman whistle owner)

Yes, we did have a great time meeting Andrea and her husband Ron last Thursday. Buffalo made convenient halfway resting point on our trip to Michigan, and you can’t go to Buffalo without a stop at the Anchor Bar, which is where Buffalo wings originated.

Here is a picture of Andrea, Ron, and me. Note the wing debris in the foreground…

I knew I would enjoy making whistles, but the one thing Glenn Schultz did not prepare me for was the wonderful people I’d meet in the process. Usually it’s by phone or e-mail, but once in a while I have the pleasure of meeting the great folks who buy my whistles, and it’s always a joy. We look forward to seeing Andrea and Ron on future trips through the Buffalo area.
