M&E Flutes

We had a great visit with Michael and Evelyn Cronnolly while in Ireland. I’ve posted a page with photos and a few videos of Michael playing some of his instruments here: http://www.silbealabanza.com/cronnolly.html

Thank you, Viejomc, for such a delightful and intimate portrait of my (10 year old M&E standard 5 key) flute’s birthplace and its “midwives.”

Nice, I enjoyed it quite a bit. If you watch him playing Flute it looks like he never moves the finger that covers the G hole. Interesting, because in one tune I know I keep that finger on the hole. The funny thing is he plays that tune on the F Flute video.

Thanks Vie -

That was really fun.

I have an M&E Polymer (my first ‘real’ flute) and am considering one of theirs in wood.

I sure hope I get a chance to maybe buy it direct, when and if I ever get to Erin.

And to think, it might even come with PIE! :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for posting that. Very nice!

His rhythm on the box is a bit better than on the flute, but he sure gets a powerful tone out all the flutes he plays.

Interviews, pictures of workshops and other info about flutemakers really makes their work come to life in a whole different way (like the recent pics of the Wilkes workshop). I do realise this could be more exposure than some flutemakers are comfortable with, but I do hope we get to see some of other makers’ shops as well.

The F-flute clips also made me want to own a conical F-flute.
F is a cool key :sunglasses:

Nice videos and pics. I think I’ll be getting M&E Eb and F flutes sometime soon. Lots of stuff to buy and not enough money :sniffle:

I must have some deficiency when it comes to desiring flutes other than the standard D…I just don’t see the point.

Still loving my 6 keyed M&E…it gets better every day, well, or maybe it’s me that’s getting better and bonding more with the flute. Regardless of the reason, I’m choosing to love the one I’m with.

Well, I’m very attracted to both bigger and smaller flutes (although not smaller than F). I think I need one F, one Eb, one Bb and maybe, maybe an A, or an A body for the Bb. I love the idea of the different characters for different sizes. The crisp response and ease of play of the smaller flutes and the deep, vibrating tone of the low flutes. D will always be the standard though.

Glad to hear you’re still getting along with the M&E Eric. I’m thinking of asking Michael to construct a long F key for my 5-key soon. I’m really starting to feel limited sometimes with just the short F. The problem is really to find the time to send it away. I might have to get hold of a replacement flute in the meantime.

I’ve slowly come to really like the long F, so I can understand why you’d want to add one. The short F is still my preferred F key, but the Fnat to D passages are so much easier with the long key, too.
