I am Dutch but i fail to see ANY Dutch in the songtitles or explainations..
It’s German.., not Dutch.. 
I wonder why americans always mix us up with Germans… 
Like in the disney cartoon about the (not based on truth) story about Hans Brinkers with his finger in a dyke (one of those earth mounts, not the other ones.. 
) in which all the Dutch people speak German.. 
Maybe because “Duits” is “German” in Dutch and “Dutch” looks and sounds similar..
Anyway.., it’s NOT the same.., there! ;p
How would you like it if us Europeans called you USA people Canadian huh? =p

“The bird dance” which was recorded by some Dutch folks in the 80’s with the help of some electronic keyboard or other..
We never really recovered from that one and always cringe if anyone brings it up..
It was a huge hit with mindless pubgoing peoples back then..
And sorry djm.., i had to make some comparison but from what i know, see and hear about the US i could have probably better said it the other way around because it would hurt more..

I wrote that post in about 50 seconds. The title of the record IS “PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH FOLK SONGS,” even though these people do speak a dialect of German. Most likely the settlers around them didn’t care about niggling details such as this and simply called them “Dutch.” I simply wanted to make fun of Tim Britton, is that so wrong?

It’s gibberish, but don’t say to anyone who can speak German, because it’s…the Killer Joke!
It’s not that people didn’t care about the difference. They just didn’t know! These people speaking a foreign language that the farmers had never heard said they were “Deutsch,” which sounded to them a lot like Dutch. It stuck. Actually, most folks with that ancestry now call themselves Pennsylvania German, but the outsiders (still) don’t know the difference, so they still say Dutch.
