I’m from Melbourne, Australia, and I’m looking for a (cheap) whistle - either a Low F or G. As I have pretty small hands, I don’t want to order one over the internet, I really need to try it out first. Does anyone know of anywhere I’d be able to try out some whistles? I am particularly interested in Susato whistles.

Hi Monika and welcome to the mad world of whistling. Off hand, I can’t think of any shop in Melbourne that stocks low whistles although, for all I know, there might be one. I can make a suggestion though. Celtic Southern Cross in Tasmania stock low whistles—Overton, Howard and Susato. Although they are a mail order operation, they are very obliging. I suggest that you browse through their catalogue and then either write to, or phone, Mike Watts explaining your concerns about buying before trying. www.bigwhistle.co.uk have a ruler against all their pictures - not very clear sometimes but better than nothing, and have a low G Susato listed
