Low Eb blues...

I want a thin-metal (brass?) low Eb.
I want it to honk down low like a horn–no, I don’t intend if for ITM…
It could be wood too, I like the reediness of some timber bludgeons.
For some reasons, I don’t want it aluminium.

I want it to bark, to play “hard” Eb, to slide from low Eb to high and back seamlessly, to growl and to tongue-flutter without jumping high, yet play third Eb when needed.

If it’s loud and stable at the low end, yet balanced up in 2nd register, so much the better.

Yvon Le Coant doesn’t make one, nor intend to.
Several inquiries with Copeland had no answers.
AFAIK Bleazey, Grinter not into low Eb either…

Any suggestions (beside a low C NA flute ) ?
Burke plastic?
Reyburn? Then which, large or small-bore?

Forget your decision not to buy aluminium and get an Overton. It would meet all your other requirements. Otherwise get a Burke composite I would think, although that recommendation is really from friends who play them, I only have a Burke G amongst the lows and that is an AlPro.

Oh, you could get an Olwell bamboo flute in Eb.

I second the suggestion of Burke Composite. I have an E, and while it’s not a very loud whistle, it does play with very good volume right down to the bellnote. It also has almost a woody sound that you might like.

Thinking…

Thunk…what’s a Reyburn low Eb wood’n’brass whistle like?

What key is Tenor MIb (it’s wood  )?

:sunglasses: :stuck_out_tongue: What you need is ta stop talking, get off yer bum and start making whistles, talks cheap

C C C Cerry…C C C Calling…

Hey Zub, I knew I was holdin on to a Low Eb for some reason. So if you want it its got your name on it. Inline holes and I only make it in one bore size. By the way this one is a real beauty and sounds like its made to your specs.

Ronaldo

Ronaldo, you bet I’m interested–the Czech’s in the e-mail.

  1. A Reyburn looks like the custom-tailored compromise for flakey froggies starting this thread not knowing if he really wants timber or brass…
  2. Don’t say you got a wooden Mibé Ténor* ???

aka low Eb for those of you foreign to Berlioz’s language*
** I lurv footnotes…

Sorely tempted, dear… Scraps of blueprints piling up… But don’t you think the market kinda crowded unless I achieve my dream affordable chromatic bend-a-tone whistle aka Zubrophone ?

Nah! the water is fine come on jump in. i’ll take yer first Zubrophone :astonished: Those can do DO and them what talk Talk.and them that do nothing do  nothing

Well zoob you know I would have suggested a Rayburn. They are the best “honkin” whistle around. But it sounds like you are going that way so when you get it let us know just how good it is

Tom

Once again I fail to post a piccie…Zoob, if MIb is indeed tenor Eb, then there’s this little known Spanish wooden whistlesmith who makes one. I had some comms with him last year, but haven’t heard any clips nor do I know anyone that has one (not surprisingly).

So, head south and let me know if they’re any good!!

Trisha

ps don’t forget the Kerry Pro set…I might just have to get a Low D Goldie soon.

Amazing llama llass… Just mention something totally unheard of, and she’ll casually drop “oh, it’s only a Strathmann flute” or “oh, yeah that’s only a recording studio violin from the 20’s, I’ve seen a few”…
Like, how many people do we know who played TWO breton whistles?

Trisha, please do mail me the whereabouts of your Spanish timber lather. If he’s not deep south like Andalusia or The Rock, I may arrange a hop some day. After all, it may be no longer than driving from SF to LA – that’s one advantage of Europe!

As for the 'lumin’um pipes, it makes sense you had to be tempted by a true CG some day or another. My luck, in a way: you can be sure I’ll remind you your offer on the set (esp. the Eb tube!)! Well, you can’t go wrong with Colin’s craftsmanship, or value for price… though you’ll tell me how it compares when you get it–you did gather by now I don’t go by brands, didn’t you?

Hi Zoob…mailed you a URL with pics ‘n’ prices, but I’ll need to fish back for the emails to get his whereabouts. Hasn’t his own site. Take it we haven’t any Eurochiffers in Spain???
