low cost caassette recorder

i’m in the market for a low cost recorder for recording at session and off clips and snips…such as $50 -75 or less…such as tose found at redio shack. would like to be able to add external mike… any thoughts??

any thoughts on external mikes?

ebay might be the best shop for cassette recorders, but i believe there are better options like voice recorders etc..

i want a cassette recorder because i have a bigger marantz for playback that can slow to 1/2 speed…

I think cassettes are very much on the way out. Digital recorders would hook up with software that allow you to slow down or speed up pretty much however you want. The only new cassette players I’ve seen lately have been part of radio/CD player portable units.

My son uses a SONY TCM-20DV for his music classes which does the job for him. Sound is muddy but it’s dead cheap.
I am still using (every now and again, I rarely record these days) the then top of the range Sony WM-D3 I got in 1985

The Sony recorder is dead-cheap because it has been discontinued. Right now you can buy it for about $35.00 when you can find it.

I would make sure to get one with a 1/2 speed switch to slow the music down..the nice thing is that this brings the music down one octave too so you can still play along on your D whistle..Sony makes a really cheap recorder with this feature, about $30..I got mine at K-mart…
