low bamboo flutes

does anyone own a low bamboo flute (lower than D) ?
Just wondering who are good makers. Does anyone have a woodsong instrument? Just wondering how the quality compares to say Olwell.

I have a low-C Olwell by a guy named Pat Olwell and IMHO it’s every bit as good as an Olwell.

Doc

I got a Tipple low C not Bamboo but similar to a Bamboo Flute as it is not Conical.

That would depend on the species of bamboo and the section of culm used. Hollow stemed bamboo does actually taper internally toward the root (see shakuhachi). And i’m sure there must be a species out there with a good enough upper culm taper to use as well.

Not that i know of anyone making diatonic flutes like this yet.

There’s straight bamboo flutes here…

Other than beautiful looking (and sounding from the sound files) flutes, he does have some amusing and also interesting stuff in his blog.

Anyone here got a Romy flute?

I have a woodsong low C, and I used to own other instruments by them. I think it’s great, but the stretch is huge and I can’t really play it much. The sound is really nice and it’s easy to blow.

David Chu (in USA) made me a low C along with bamboo lip plate.
I have recently been playing with a shakuhachi player and this flute stands its own.

Thanks for the link to David Chu. The links on his site go many interesting places as well, including: http://www.mejiro-japan.com
