Loving my Abell Whistle

I recently ordered a D from them. I had wanted one for years, but was curious if I would like the beak. Well I do, very much. In fact I find it a perfect fit to my lips. I do play the flute so that may factor in to my liking this so much. There is a sense of directness and control with the Abell whistle that I don’t usually feel with a whistle though I do with the flute. I have lots of great whistles, and I like them all in different ways. But I have enjoyed this one in a rather unique, visceral way. There is a directness in the sound, a perfection in its tuning and liveliness to its tone that is quite pleasant. It has great volume for playing in a loud session while still being pleasant to play in the kitchen at home. How is this possible? no clue. There is something about the way the sound cuts in a crowded room that doesn’t insist in inserting itself at home. It’s a whistle that can be pushed, but doesn’t seem to insist on it if that makes any sense.
