Three years ago, I tried one of his keyless flutes at Lorient. They seemed to be well made and easy to blow (for a tooter as clueless as me), as far as I could tell through the din. Sylvain Barou then wrote on the chiffboard that Louis was a good craftsman, but his flutes would need some more R&D. Seems that he has done his homework. Maybe Sylvain could tell us more.
In case you didn’t have enough flutes, Louis Jourdan is designing a bass D flute… that’s right, I said bass D. In an email he told me it would be about a meter long

It’s been done with the silver flute already, they cost about $20K. A Dutch (?) maker makes affordable (=only $2K) PVC bass flutes, I’m told they work well.
Louis’s website lists pitchs, including “ré basse.” This is low E, correct?

I think this is the mentioned Bass D (Do=C, Ré=D etc.)
Yup, Christian’s got it right. The Great Scale starts at C so do ré mi puts ré at D. The song-- you know which one-- doesn’t work in French though because B (ti- a drink with yada yada) is si which means “so” or “yes” in response to a negative question.
