Just looking at this Copeland nickel high D, I drifted : the design comes right out of Tolkien’s universe. But where precisely?
Runes sign it, but can’t be elvish. It’sleek all right but sword-like and it has somewhat of a military full-face helmet-like head. Some men of a warring kingdom gotta have smithed it.
For Orcs (Orks ?) the guess was easy : Orcarinas. True, Red Orkers had recorders instead…
Elves probably had to use wood.
Old hobbits made the original Clarkes, but the youngsters will probably sequel the Sweetone–as soon as they invent the plastic.
Dwarves had low Overtons, except theirs were steel.
Hey, to me it’s time for sleepy–you ancient folks go on ?
What you refer to as a “Copeland nickle high D” (one of which I just blessedly received via UPS)is the favored small sidearm carried by the Riders of Rohan. It glows eerily in the presence of recorders and/or rappers.
PhilO, I just checked : it works. Someone had hidden an Orcs weapon in my Den. There’s some guttural word scribbled on it : Aulos…
A mystery lingers
about whistles
not of wood
nor of metal
Not of plastic either
brothed by Red Orkers’
Blockfloete Meister-melters.
Some report seing ancient magic materials like “Bark-lith” (from stone trees, or troll’s bones ?) allegedly seen in the tribe of Burkes, but then some tell tale of Tough-noïl from distant Albian Highlanders.
