Lost whistles in South Wales

I see, well, you may be right there, it’s from one of these!

Aha.

I’ve been teaching Welsh to a German couple. They’re both fluent in Irish, and one of them speaks Welsh (and English) with an Irish accent. Interesting. The other one sounds a bit like Basil from Jülich, unsurprisingly. Neither plays whistle. Dunno about Basil, mind.

Very easy to pronounce, is Welsh, once you work the sounds out. We’re very phonetic.

ahh, german as well, very phonetic, not like english!

Oh! Well make contact next time, boyo!

It’s not too oer just at the moment - a warm day in fact at -2C.

Steve

Is too!!! :swear:

funkybeets. english is definately not a phonetic language!!
tell me, how do you pronouce thorough? like this?
t-h-ro-uu-g-hhh
no?

Hey, that is just one of the exceptions!

Well, I’ll tell you what, though. Since I was a little kid I’ve been thoroughly confused by hough to spell some English words. It’s rough at times, one never knoughs exactly to to get it doughn on paper…

Just not phonetic enough, I suppoughse. Welsh, now - easy… And German and other languages, I’m reliably informed.

And it’s been -4C here today, so it’s warmer than Montreal! Wonder hough long it’ll stay that lough here. If it carries on we’ll all have coffs and stough.

See, easy. You spell as well as most of our high school graduates do! :astonished:

I’m touched.

I really are.

Welsh is easy to speak, just take your teeth out and drink too much sherry.

Duw. Oddly enough, in this multilinguistic thread, I don’t find it so. Don’t need such contortions. Or inebriation. Just comes naturally to me.

I don’t even feel like that about English, my second language. That’s pretty natural too. How peculiar.

Yup, it worked with us. Here I am a few years ago…
