I know I can get this new at Amazon and other places, but I was wondering if anyone had a copy they weren’t using that they’d let go for a bit cheaper
I’ve played with this Daye penny chanter set enough (5 days now, 6 hours practice) to know that I’m going to stick with it a while. I’m having loads of fun, and it feels like when I first picked up the whistle and found I could actually do something with it. Since there’s nary a tutor or tionól within affordable distance, it seems that getting this book is probably the best I can do for now.
You really should get the accompanying CD (or cassette, if you find a used copy). Some of the exercises may be hard to figure out otherwise. Listening is half of learning, it’s risky if you’re trying to figure out what something should sound like from the printed page.
(You’re likely to get the rhythm wrong, for starters, if you’re just reading it from the book).
Amazon doesn’t seem to offer the book+CD combination, unless I missed something…
Googling “New Approach to Uilleann Piping CD” turns up a few potential sources.
It also shows up on Ebay from time to time at a reasonable price. Don’t fret, you’ll find one. And also keep in mind, Wanderer, that all who wander are not lost.
