looking for title and Jimmy O'Brien Moran setting

I’m looking for a title on this reel I have for this week:

Harry B. has clued me in from the IrTrad that a similar reel called Ceo na
gCnoc was recorded by Seamus Ennis and Jimmy O’Brien-Moran. The
setting of that tune, which I’d found, doesn’t match the turn on this reel
above (which Harry said was close to the Seamus Ennis setting). So I’m
wondering if any of you have the Jimmy O’Brien Moran cd with Ceo na
gCnoc, to see if the turn on his setting is similar to this tune above. Its
the cd which has on it I’ll Mend your Pots and Kettles o. I think the cd is
called Sean Reid’s Favourite.

Thanks in advance, pipers. I have got this on the flute. But often I run into
pipe tunes, I thought your collective wisdom might help me out. So far,
my husband and a friend have said they want to go into the Maid of Mt.
Cisco instead of the 2nd part.

If this isn’t Ceo na gCnoc, does anyone know what it is?

Ceo na gCnoc apperaed in transcription by Breandan Breathnach in the Piobaire once, it’s in ‘The Master’s Touch’. It’s not the tune you have written there.

I have have JOBMs CD here and it’s the standard version published as above, in the piobaire. Tommy Keane also recorded it.

To complicate matters, Seamus Ennis in the earliest recording he made of the tune, on an acetate disc recorded by Rich Nevins in 1948, plays the second half quite different from how he played it later. It’s a stunning display of piping if ever you get to hear it.

Well I’ll just play the tune, never mind a title. However if anyone does
have a name I’ll be happy to write it into my list.

The version of the tune that you posted to Irtrad and called "Ceili na gCnoc’ was the one I was commenting on as being more like the Ennis setting that I have heard (not the tune written above which is quite different altogether!). I didn’t comment on that tune as I recall.

Ennis did have (at least) two distinct settings of ‘Ceo na gCnoc’ . Jimmy O’B Moran got his (different) version of it from Ennis.

Oh sorry Harry I got it mixed up. Well thank you for the information about
the one. I was intrigued by it when I came across it, even though it is not
the tune I was originally looking for. I will probably learn it anyway! As
for the other, I have no title but so what. I still like it.
