Looking for the tune "When I'm to old to dream"

I have tried JC’s and a Google search, plus all our favourite spots … no luck.

Does anybody have the ABC or music for this tune. I heard it at our session last Thursday.

Any help will be appreciated.

Is this the song?

Yes I think so, thank you. John McDermott has an album with that title. Diana Krall did the song/tune also. I don’t think that it is traditional, although the person at our session played it as an air or very slow waltz.

Thanks again

Well, when I first saw this thread I thought of this song and then thought, ‘No, it couldn’t be.’ Well, it is. To the best of my knowledge, this is an old Tin Pan Alley song, but who wrote it and who first popularised it are facts that escape me right now. I bet I have the sheet music lying around somewhere in an oldies compilation; playing jazz, I never knew when I’d be called on to play something like this, although not in the style of the clip of course. That won’t help you find the music of course, but I’m sure it will be easy to track down. It’s pretty easy to learn by ear anyway.

Hi Wombat, the song was written by Oscar Hammerstein and Sigmond Romberg in 1938. Once I figured it out that I wasn’t looking for a Trad song or tune, I did a Google search and found that the tune has been covered by many a singer including Diana Krall, Frank Sinatra, and John McDermott et al.

As the new music librarian I delved into to Song Index books and found a sheet music copy of the song in,“Reader’s Guide to Popular Songs that will live forever.”

Thanks to all for your ideas and help.
