looking for Hall crystal in D or G and advice on it...

Hi,
it has been a long time since I wrote, been busy outside during the nice season! but playing my irish flute a lot more lately and enjoying it so much. What an amazing instrument!
Now I get to the point… I think I would like to buy a Hall crystal flute in D or G.
Does anyone here wants to sell one?
I am wondering about the fingering space also… is the D hard to play? are the finger holes bigger and more spread out than a irish flute?
(I have a Greet Lejeune flute)
Would the G be smaller and easier?
I must admit I prefer the sound of the D.

thanks!
Happy fluting to all!

Hey Malem. I am pretty sure the spacing on the Hall crystal is pretty tough, I would suggest going with the G.

There are always a couple on EBay…

The G is the best to start on…the D can be played but takes getting used to…

I sent you a pm.

I have a Hall Crystal D flute with no decals (reported to be made for a player as opposed to a collector). I want to sell it. It’s in the original box.

Thanks for the advice. I prefer the sound of the D (from the audio samples on their site) but I was afraid it would be hard to play. So no fun or not for a while I guess!
think I will favor the G then. Thanks a lot!

i play a hall d and i made a pvc flute that i keep/play in my car. i have no other experience with flutes. i’ve been playing the hall d for a year. i can stretch my fingers on a piano from c to the e of the next octave. i don’t have a problem with the stretch of a hall d. the only trouble i have with a hall d is that my wife does not want me to play during her favorite tv shows.

I love the idea of a pvc flute in the car!
I used to carry a cheap native american love flute in my car and almost enjoyed traffic jams!
I should get a pvc one day to do just the same and leave it in the car all the time! in case of emergency… needing to play!

I am really wondering now. Could you tell me the distance (if you don’t mind the hassle of course) between the holes and size of holes : eg. hole 1 to 2: 1 inch, hole 2 to 3: 1.25 inch etc)

thanks no matter what.

ok, i’m sure there is some itm way to do this but here’s my way.
(o good, you’re an inch person and not a mm person)

3/4" to the begining of the embochure hole.
1/2" embouchure hole.
9 1/2" to the b hole.
1/2" b hole
1" to the a hole. (lol i said a hole.)
1/2" a hole. (lol i said a hole again.)
1 1/4" to the g hole.
3/8" g hole.
1 3/4" to the f# hole.
3/8" f# hole.
5/8" to the e hole.
3/8" e hole.
1 1/2" to the d hole.
1/2" d hole.
3 3/8" to the end of the flute.

my measurements add up to 22.875" but the flute is 22." each of the holes has a ridge where the hole is raised and i used a yardstick, so the measurements should be considered approximate. if you’re real anal (think “a hole”) i bet your could ask the hall company for the actual measurements.

be careful where you keep your pvc flute in your car. i left my flute in the back window during this last heat wave and it bowed a bit. still plays fine, it’s just bowed a bit.

you should do a search of all the threads that mention crystal flutes. there was one thread that mentioned the condensation. i like my crystal flute but i wish the condensation wasn’t so noticeable up close.

Wow!
thank you soooooo much!
I really appreciate this. It is perfect.
It gives me a real good idea.

I really appreciate this, it is most helpful!

take care
