Looking for French Classical Flute

Hi,

I am looking to purchase a French Classical style flute. I am very interested in Terry McGee’s Noe Freres flute, but his waiting list is 2 years. Lark in the Morning has an inexpensive one but the quality is not very high. Does anyone know where I can get one?

Thanks,

Kim

By “French,” do you mean in-line G and open holes on the keys?

I’d start on eBay, frankly. Do a search for the model you want to narrow it down (Haynes? Whatever.) and look at “completed items” first to see what the going rate seems to be. I got a Gemeinhardt M1 (silver plate, offset G, C foot, plateau keys) for about $125 (plus shipping) and could have spent less if I’d waited for another one to come up.

Or poke around on the Flute Network page (http://www.flutenet.com/</a](http://www.flutenet.com/">http://www.flutenet.com/</a)>) and see what’s available.

Good luck!

Thanks Marguerite,

Actually, the flute I’m looking for is the 19th century 5-key wooden type.

You’re less likely to find 19th-century goods on the Flute Network, I’ll bet, but they seem to show up on eBay from time to time (doesn’t everything?). If I don’t find what I’m looking for right away, I’ll set up a “saved search” and let it notify me when new items matching my search criteria appear.

Good luck!

M

Check out http://www.williampetit.com. They have some antique flutes for sale. I have a Gautrot Aine (1887), gifted to me by a student and its great fun to play. Good luck on your search.
You may also want to check out http://www.vintage-instruments.com. Not all entries on this site have photos though.
