Looking for an authority on Generations

Hello
I recently acquired (meaning I gave a guy $10US for it) a Generation whistle. However, it doesn’t have the plastic fipple, it is chrome and all 1 piece construction, similiar to a Clarke, but the fipple/mouthpiece is all built in. Also the Generation logo is a not a decal like on my other Generations, but rather it is a seperate piece wrapped around the tube and soldered at the bottom. The words “Generation” and “British Make” are embossed on the logo along with the key, in this case Eb. I suspect that it is kind of old, but I was wondering how old? Does anyone know anything about these types of Generations? The Generation website wasn’t particularly useful. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

That’s one of the early versions of a Generation whistle. The evolution went from that kind, with the emblem soldered on, to the same whistle, but with a decal like the current ones, to the first injection molded plastic fippled ones (sometime in the late 1940’s or 1950’s I would guess), to the present version, which looks very similar to the previous plastic fippled version, but has a somewhat differently configured plastic mouthpiece.

I don’t know when Generation started making whistles, but they might have been making them like that in the 1920’s and 1930’s, maybe even earlier, maybe into the 1940’s, whenever it was they started with the decal emblems.

Best wishes,
Jerry

Sounds as if you got quite a bargain, if only for scarcity value. How does it sound? Photos?

please photos

pic!! pic!!

Hello,
Ok, ok I’ll try to get pictures when I get home, but in the meantime here is a link to a page on C&F, the whistle I’m talking about looks just like this one, except that it’s an Eb instead of a D. It’s all chrome and looks a lot like a Shaw, except that it doesn’t taper. It’s as wide at the bottom as it is at the top.

Thanks again,

:OO!! I see!

Technical Difficulty, please stand by…

Nothing to apologize for. There is no picture quality, since there’s no picture.

Hope this works.
