Looking for a Solid Case?

I have a 6 key Hammy, the case was rough, very poor padding, the flute didn’t fit real well and the case did not provide sufficient protection.

So, I looked for other options:

Northwind makes a custom fitted case, probably would have been excellent..though I would have had to send flute measurements, wait a couple of weeks or more and spend $250 or more. Absolutely, an excellent case.

I also went to my local gun store…though they did have some options, nothing really bowled me over. Other than the crowds examining the automatic weapons and buying guns for their girlfriends (“Here honey, this Colt 45 shouldn’t have too much of a kick”).

In searching the Internet, I found a site that sold aluminum cases, with heavy foam padding. I spent less than $50, for a nifty locking aluminum case, with 4.5 inches of padding. I cut the holes in the middle padding for the flute to fit, and it is extremely secure.

I’m going to purchase another for to hold my fifes, of which I have far too many.

If you need a case, check it out. If someone would like me to post pix of my case and setup…I’m happy to do so.

So, as a Jazz man, when you say ‘solid’ do you mean sturdy and reliable or do you mean it like “those riffs were solid”?

Thanks for the link. Those look like some solid cases.

in point of fact, both references seem to work…

—not flimsy, slight, or light, as buildings, furniture, fabrics, or food; substantial.

—great, excellent, esp. musically.

Be cool,

I did something similar, but much cheaper, for my cornetto (kinda like a recorder with a little trumpet mouthpiece). I bought an artists case on eBay and some foam rubber and velvet from a fabric store. I cut the foam to fit and used spray-on glue to attach everything to the case. Works great!
