Looking for a recorder type instrument with fingering to match Galician gaita

Hi,

I would like to find a whistle or recorder with a fingering matching the Galician bagpipes.

A few years ago I bought a maple recorder-like instrument from Seivane but it’s not really satisfactory. The six finger note is D, I would prefer C so I can play along with gaita recordings and use it to practice gaita music with other instruments. Also, and more importantly the minor third with a forked fingering is very sharp, so it’s not really suitable for minor tunes. In addition two fingerings for the high D (o xxx xxxo and o ooo ooox) which sound the same on the gaita don’t have the same pitch on the practice instrument.

Watching a video from German Ruiz (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4MqLZhA1Ac) the suggestion is that a baroque recorder will work well for the minor 3rd but I doubt I can get one with a 6 finger note of C, which ideally I would like.

Can anyone suggest an off-the shelf instrument or a maker who might be able to make one.

Thanks, that does look interesting, but I admit I was hoping not to spend so much money.

What you want is a “pito” or “pito pastoril.” Carlos Corral makes them ( Pito pastoríl en varias tonalidades ).

Just saw your note about the fingering. Yes, pitos are often designed to only accept the open high D.

You need to find your “Galician gaita” and make it or photographs of it avaiable to whom you want your answer. First, one native piper of Spain told me that there are 7-8 pipes native to Spain and Galicia has no monopoly on them. I know a gaitero in my community well versed in one type and world-class on Irish wind instruments who likely knows named Ian Law.
