Hiram (Ohio) College has sessions three or four times a year, and yesterday they got Liz Carroll to join us. Not only did she draw a large number of players, but a huge audience. She was wonderful. She didn’t want to ‘lead’ us, but rather had us call the tunes we know and played along. She encouraged those of us who like to sit in the fringes to start tunes, and was gracious in letting us set the tempo. There was even a small girl who was playing a 1/2 size fiddle, and Liz asked her what she knew and let her start a couple of tunes at beginner speed.
We had a couple of storytellers, and some singers and dancers, and the whole thing was a blast. It was suppose to last until 5 but when I had to leave at 5:15 they were still playing.
We did ask her to play a little of her own stuff and she played a pair of tunes she wrote, one of which she said is untitled and still evolving.
What a really nice person she is and if you ever get a chance to see her I recommend it.
