In the Sindt whistle care instructions which came with my last whistle John recommended using “a plain or white lithium base grease or some of the fancy synthetic greases that you can find at hardware stores in small amounts” on the tunning end when reassembling the whistle after washing it in dish soap. Well, mine’s ready for a soak but I have no idea where to find lithium base grease or what brands to look for. Has anyone here used one of these options with their whistle?
I have a large tub of white lithium grease in the shop. I may have a few more whistles than the average whistler. ![]()
Actually it is what I use to re-pack the bearings in my bicycle hubs, bottom brackets and headsets (when they are not sealed bearings). I’ve got a lot of old bikes. White lithium grease is generally available in auto supply shops and parts retailers. Should also be available in many hardware shops as well. It does come in little plastic tubes as well- think small travel sized toothpaste tubes. The advantage WLG has over other petroleum based lubricants is that it does not dry out or cake over time. A little goes a long way. And it does not dissolve rubber o-rings or seals should any be in the area. It is however more expensive than simple stuff like Vaseline or bearing grease. But a little tube should last a long while. I have a tube I bought in the early 1970’s that is still in good shape in the bottom of the toolbox when last I looked.

Pep Boys has lithium base grease for $1.90 for a 3 oz tube. Any brand sold at an auto parts store will be of good quality.
Thanks!
