I knew it! My dog always had bad taste in operating systems.
Hmm. I know I should succumb and want a mac, but I’m still going to buy a windows based machine like a good little boy when the time comes (probably next month actually as my current machine is on it’s last legs).
I don’t have a dog, but I definitely want a mac. Too bad I’m poor.
edit: I had written “I definitely want a man,” which is also true, but not pertinent to this discussion.
Are applications for Mac still 3-5 times more expensive than for Winders? Besides the cost of the Mac itself, that has always been the biggest thing holding me back from Mac.

Don’t even get me started on the new MS Outlook using the MS Word rendering engine to display emails… inexplicable and idiotic.
And is it just me, or do all operating system interfaces look pretty much the same these days? And why do I care?
Roll on the collapse of technological civilization.
I don’t think that’s been true for nearlya decade (I’ve been using both Mac and Windows for years and haven’t noticed much price difference between the two, neither for the actual computers or the software). In the past five years or more, prices have been comparable – for the given specs, a Mac today costs the same as a decent Windows machine and in some cases less, and I haven’t noticed much difference if any in software cost.
The only real issue is that the Mac market is much smaller and thus the Windows versions of some programs, such as Quicken, are much better than the Mac versions. Dreamweaver used to have some features in Windows that weren’t available in the Mac version, but in contrast MS Word for Mac actually has features that aren’t available in the Windows version.
You do sometimes end up feeling like a second-class citizen using a Mac…not all websites work well with Safari, for example, but not all websites work well with Firefox for Windows either so it’s not a big deal.
I met a girl in our local coffee shop that had a white lap top, and I came to find out it was a wireless mac. I was interested in the color because my black pc once got so hot in the sun that the alarm went off.

gotta second you on all that brad. most stuff that I use for both mac and pc are nearly exact in price.
The MacBook I’m looking at (with the bells and whistles, some of them tin) is around $2k, about what my old laptop cost me three years ago.
You can also double boot in Win XP on the newer macs, so if you absoluitely positively have to HAVE Microstuffed, you can

Yes they do. The joke about Windows 98 was that it was a rehash of the MAC OS as it was then. Convergent technology/evolution. We would hope they would all end up the same, or at least similar. But proprietors will always want to keep things proprietorial.

It was the dig at iTunes that made me laugh.
“You can hear it for a dollar.”
“Why won’t you share?”
