Lenten lint.

When I was a child I knew what Lent was, but, it still always brought up images of dryer lint. I guess it’s because they were pronounced the same way: lee-yunt.

Hi Walden,

OK, I figured out your last avatar must have been General Stand Watie – wonder what age he was in that photo – but what does this avatar represent?

Something equally controversial?

Ah, durians, ill-smelling mystery of life

I never understood the big deal about Mardi Gras until I got to college. It’s not a huge celebration here as it is elsewhere. With a heavy Baltimore twang Mom always called it “Moddy-Graw”; took me a long time to translate that to Marty-Gra.

I always associated the word more with lentils.

Since we tend to eat more lentils during Lent than usual (and we do a lot of lentils…), my children tend to associate the two as well.
