Lehart

It came today, and it kicks ass. That’s all. -r-

Howmuchwasit?Howlongdidyouwait?DidyouspeaktoGilles?Bigholes?Smallholes?Typeofwood???!!!???!!!

Here are the specs- (Jamey and Sylvain, please correct me here)

The flute is somewhere in between a Rudall and a Pratten. Large-ish holes with a small bore. Incredibly responsive, but is not a honking sesh flute. Incredibly rich, subtle, but reedy sound. The low notes just happen, no forcing at all.

I got a 3-keyed with a long Cnat key to facilitate playing piper style, which is a nice bit of latitude. I believe the flute is ebony (Gilles spelles it “ebonie”, as I recall), although my French is non-existant. Its got nickel silver keys, a brass tuning slids and copper joints- really a unique look.

I payed about $750 US and waited one year. I haven’t played very many flutes, but of the flutes I have played, Lehart’s are definitely the easiest to play. I make bodhrans myself, and my making philosophy is “maximum response with minimal effort”, and Lehart’s flute is certainly along the same vein.

If I were you, I’d get one. I suppose most people are generally really happy/excited when they get a new instrument, but honestly, I’m not only that, but am really satisfied. The flute is easily worth double what I paid for it…not that its for sale..

Sweet dude!
By the way, I play one of Rob’s bodhrans - a 12x6 with kangaroo skin, and it seriously kicks @$$. I also have a Brendan White double-skinned tunable which I have little to no interest in playing after getting Rob’s drum… http://www.metloef.com .
Best,
Chris

Thanks very much, Rob!

Hi Rob, glad to see the flute arrived!! so I take it it’s like the laser you said it would be?
Chris, i didn’t enjoy my BW drum much either!!

Bye,

David

Its really a fantastic flute. I’ve been playing all afternoon…it is so easy to play- it is as if you simply exhale across the embecure hole and its in! Not at all like the Healy I had previous, where I really had to work for the lower register. The Lehart is very consistent…very nice!

Nice drums!

Rob,

Nice drums indeed. Can you tell me which drums you are playing on the two sound samples. Thanks.

The Lehart sounds super - is it light (weightwise)?

Rob - please check your private messages,

Pamela

BTW- I have photos if anyone is interested…

I’m interested. Let’s check it out. I have never seen a Lehart before.

  • Craig

I really interested too!

Pamela

Does Lehart speak English? What are the other two keyes you put on besides the long C ?

Yes he speaks English. I called him the other day…very nice fellow.

Patrick

Wow, Thanks for the photo’s. That’s a great looking flute. I’m surprised how large the holes are. Very unique and vintage looking.

Rob -

Thanks so much for the terrific photos - now I know what to expect when mine arrives

I tried to email you back - but your mailbox is full, and so my mail came back “undeliverable”.

Keep us posted on how the new flute goes,

regards.

Pamela
