Hello Everyone! I have realized that I have been remiss at best, and rude at least, for not introducing myself to the Board. My name is Lee Likins (user name ‘leel’), I live in Weston, MO. I got my first whistle last October at the Walnut Grove Bluegrass Festival (more popularly known as WINFIELD). It was a Walton’s D beginner’s set. It infected me with an instant love of the instrument and a severe case of WHaO. Now I’ve done the Gerneration (brass) Set thing (have tweaked a few), the Susato Set thing, several misc. individual whistles thing, and have settled on a current favorite: my Dixon D which I just got two weeks ago at the Kansas City Highland Games. Man! Playing that whistle is almost better than sex!
I have already gotten much very useful info from the post board, and think Chiff & Fipple is the best site on the net.
Weston, Mo was the site of the first Zoukfest which I attended. It was really hot there but cool down in the depths of O’Malley’s where the fest was held. It’s a very nice town.
Its always good to hear from others who’ve been infected by this wonderful ailment. It would also appear that you have also succumed to WHOA like most of us newcomers. On top of that you’ve got a pretty good location. I get up to visit my son in St Peters fairly regularly and always try to beg and plead enough to get him to run me by Folk Music and then on down to John McGurk’s.
Stay with the C&F Board and you’ll be properly educated and frequently amused. Stay long enough and you might even get abused (a little).

Tansy - That’s right, both Connie Dover and Kirk Lynch call Weston home. I have not had the pleasure of meeting either in person, but will most likely eventually run into them at O’Malley’s (see above)
If you’ve never been to O’Mally’s you have missed, as Lee says, a unique venue. The place was originally the first brewery west of the Mississippi (or something like that). There are several levels leading down to the very bottom room- a huge vaulted place where some of the events were held. There are several pictures available on the web. The one labelled “crypt” shows the bottom room where beer was kept cool. Some doings on another level are shown in “zoukers 5”. These pictures are all from the first zoukfest in 1998.
