Whence come the silver-plated simple-system (presumably straight-bore) flutes sold by LITM? The phrase “old world craftsmanship” sounds vague and makes one wonder which eastern bloc country is in reference.

I think it’s from the Old World country of Pakistan.
That would appear to be an old Melody flute. They were nickel plated. Picked mine up in the local junk shop for $ 12…probably overpaid. I’ll bet the “old world” craftsman lived in Chicago.

Shark in the water?
I bought a Lark Silver Flute a year or so ago and quickly sent it back for a refund. It was heavy and unimpressive. My guess is it was made in Pakistan or India.
There are lots of better bargains out there. You can get a Doug Tipple flute for less and you’ll be happier with it.
No, it’s not a Melody Flute. Doesn’t have the duct mouthpiece on the side. There is a bigger picture in the print catalogue.
Actually the Melodies came in two versions, one had the side mothpiece to make it really a whistle and the other had a raised, conventional setup. There are pictures of both kinds on the cover of the Melody booklet (which I don’t have a copy of)
I’d bet it made a better whistle than a flute though.
The worst part is that is probably tue I like to call that store Shark in the Morning. OK if you know what to buy they aren’t that bad.
Somebody at a workshop I attended in Winnipeg had one of those. I’m sure they’re Asian made but the one I puffed one was really not too bad. It was in G. He was asking $50 CAD for it. I passed it up. Somebody else was selling a Sindt D for the same price and I’m still kicking myself for not jumping on that one.

The bird sitting on the hand that holds the Hammy, is my friend Buddy, a Sun Conure.
He does a pretty good job of head-bobbing when I play certain jigs he likes!
My family doesn’t always appreciate his loud squawking, but I have learned to tune him out!
