I sometimes play tunes with low C or C# by having one of the kids cover the vent holes on my Rudall.

Can you cover just the top three and figure it from there? Or even an all-open note. Take the all-open note and figure a half-step up and there ya’ go.
I’ve tried to get a note with no holes covered, but can’t do it consistently. The flute has a diameter of about 1.5". I think it requires a lot of air. Or maybe there’s a trick to it.

Yeah. Probably the same trick my dad used to tell me was involved in fishing. He would be hauling them in while I was sitting there in bupkes-land and he’d say, “Well - ya gotta hold your mouth just right.” I suspect this is something similar.
Seriously, what little flute experience I have mostly has produced the sounds of chickens being tortured. And I don’t know what key those chickens were in, either.
