can anyone tell me how to play Kitty from the pogues album red roses for me?
Thanks
What do you mean by ‘how to play it’? Do you know how to play whistle, do you have the sheet music to that song, what exactly do you need to know? If you can be more clear somebody will no doubt be able to help you.
Ah yes, I welcome another another Pogues fan to the message board… and ‘Kitty’ is one of my favorite Pogues tunes as well.
I’ve never taken the time to notate it since it is such an easy tune to pick up by ear, but it is in the key of G and played on a soprano D whistle if that helps.
Here’s a link to the guitar tab as well… I know you can learn it by playing along with the CD if you keep at it.

‘Repeal of the Licensing Laws’ is another tune from that CD that’s really fun to play along with, and it isn’t that difficult to learn by ear either… Spider Stacy isn’t too hard to keep pace with! ![]()
i ment how to play it on the whistle
i dont have he sheet music
Welcome! I have the utmost respect for your namesake. And for the Pogues. ![]()
If you want to try to learn the song by ear, try downloading the Amazing Slow Downer software.
You can slow down the song without changing the pitch so you can pick out a few more of the details. I downloaded it after reading a lot of positive revues by members of this board, and it’s great!
Have fun!

A couple of good sites to search for the dots:
Irish Traditional Music Tune Index Alan Ng’s Tunography
If you aren’t familiar with ABC notation, here is the ABC home page.

As you know how the tune goes perhaps my shorthand will help. (0/2= C nat)

Did this very quickly by ear so any corrections greatfully received but it sounds about right to me.

Somewhat related story…
A few days ago I caught the last fifteen minutes of a documentary on Shane McGowan on the Sundance channel and plopped over to google to get more info on it and to find out when it was being shown again.
I found a site that was selling Shane McGowan posters. Now, for those of you who don’t know, McGowan, while a fantastic song writer, is not the most attractive person on the face of the planet.
I tried to think who on earth besides his mother would want his picture on their wall, and the only target market I could think of would be dentist’s offices because he’s missing most of his front teeth and the rest are rotten and crooked. As his diet seems to mostly consist of alcohol, this doesn’t seem to be much of a problem.
Still haven’t seen the rest of the documentary.

Don’t foget “Battle of Brisbane” another good one.
BTW, the documentary is called “If I Should Fall From Grace: The Shane MacGowan Story”,and it’s a great DVD w/ many extras.

But it is taken from the Pogues version of Kitty. I’d suggest try it and see.

Speaking of the Pogues, Shane MacGowan is my favorite artist of all time!!! He’s my hero. Pure lyrical Genious. Has anyone here ever seen him in concert or met him?
I’d love to hear some Shane stories.
