Unless its a flat set in C, I’m not allowed to… Kirk is nearly done with the tenor and baritone regulators I’ve been waiting over two years for… If I were starting from scratch, I’d jump on these, or if this is a C set…
I just called Elderly and asked for a measurement of the chanter, but was told that the item description says the lowest note on the chanter is D. I guess that’s good enough, so they never actually measured the length.
The style of the regs keys doesn’t exactly grab me though. Not sure why…maybe the flat area is too wide for too long.
What’s up with the G key on the bass regulator of the set for sale?
The slot of the keyway near the pin is black. I enlarged the image and it looks blurred around the mount with the pin. In another view, the key looks much higher than the others. Has anyone else noticed this?
Sure thing, and that key doesn’t appear to be straight…crook at the hinge. No clue as to why the hinge area is not open. Seems the brass should be showing. Might be something wrong there?
Yeah, as if the key was hit and the block snapped. Looks like the tape is holding the key in position. It is a bargaining point but the set is still worth the money, even with that problem.
I have purchased two guitars from Elderly; a new Breedlove and a used Froggy Bottom. In both cases I ordered them over the phone and had the right to send them back for a refund within two days if I didn’t like them. Seems like a very safe way to buy a set of used pipes. You can always send them back and cancel the deal if they don’t meet your expectations. Your only loss would be the shipping.
By the way, both guitars were lovely so I didn’t return them. And they did an excellent job of describing every tiny little scratch, finish crack, and setup detail for the used Froggy Bottom over the phone so there wouldn’t be any suprises. I suppose it’s in thier own interest to minimize returns. Even if they’re not familiar with pipes, they could probably give a good description over the phone of what they see going on with the bass regulator.
