Just wondering if anyone could help. I’ve recorded myself playing the pipes using apps such as Goldwave and Audacity at 44100hz 16bit which are downloadable from my website, but when I try to burn the tracks to CD they come out at super-sonic speed and sound like mosquitos playing mosquito versions of the pipes. Any ideas?

Seriously David, apart from that silly nonsence (which I couldn’t resist) I don’t know but surely someone will. 
Naah…they’re not too nasty, especially if you ride a Harley with open-faced helmet and grin all the way - good source of protein 
Check the settings for the MP3 encoding…I think these are adjustable and perhaps they are set out of sync with your recording speeds.

where would I check the settings? In ‘properties’ or similar of the recording software or the burning software.

The sources for this effect are varied, from sound card related problems to “mishandling” of MP3s by some software. If you are burning from MP3s, that would be my first thing to rule out. Try converting to another format, resampling, burning from another program, etc.
If you convert to a different audio format, and get the same problem, suspect sound card driver or hardware issues.

Yeah, I converted to .wav and still had the same probs. Guess it could be the card?

First thing might be to look at is Control Panels → Voice → Playback → Advanced → Performance → Sample Rate conversion → Reset Defaults
I have other suggestions, but have a go at that first.

I was suggesting more along the lines of the Audacity preferences, but if you are having the same issue with other programs, then yeah, look in the operating system/sound card settings as Eric recommends.

It sounds like to me that your cd burning software is trying to burn at a higher speed than your cd writer is capable of. I.e. your software is trying to burn at 4x and your cd writer is only buring at 1x (which explains why the burnt cd is playing back so fast). Check your burning software settings and be sure your software has correctly identified your cd writer. If it has not identified it properly, this could cause the problem. Once you have verified that the software fully recognizes your burner, try a test burn at 1x (realtime) and see if that produces an error free cd. Let us know what happens.

Reepicheep - when I burn other audio CDs it works fine, even downloaded music from the internet burns no probs. It just seems to be stuff I’ve recorded.

Eric, I just reset the defaults, but they were actually no different from previously. I can’t check playback until I try again tomorrow, but I’m not sure if that was the cure.

I sent you a stereo version of one of your files as mono MP3 files have been known to be a source of this particular problem in some programs.

I’ve just gone into Audacity’s preferences - file formats - MP3 Export Setup
and noticed the bitrate was set at 128 whereas I record at 16 bit. I wonder if changing it to 16 would help?

I just burnt the Stereo version of the file and it came out just right, so I double checked and burnt the mono version too and it come out like a mosquito, so there you have it - I need to either record in stereo or convert to stereo before burning. Interesting.
