Kinda OT: Aaaargh No Womad USA

Aaaargh. It was bad enough having to go without it last year, but I’ve just learned that there will be no WOMAD USA this year again – see http://www.kingcountyjournal.com/sited/story/html/127831

I’m going to get myself a little Jamesons and cry in the corner (and its only 3:15 and I should be working). I’ll play my recording of the 2001 Lappelectro Set and feel very, very sorry for myself.

The worst part is the reason for the cancelation – if ever there was a need for some internatonal bridge-building it’s now.

Sniff. In the past I’ve seen Natalie McMaster, Afro-Celt SS (3x), Karan Casey, Iarla O’Lionard, Donnal Lunny/Coolfin, Sharron Shannon, Shooglenifty – and that’s just the diddley-diddley music, without even getting on to the Tanzanian Thumb-piano, afropop, folk (Oysterband, Rory McLoed, Billy Bragg), Reggae, Qwaali, ,…

For those of you in the UK, Lo’Jo are playing at the Rivermeade Womad this year – don’t miss them! I will be very,very jealous though.
